Everyone Was Someone
About us
Every one was someone. Every one had a name.
Everyone Was Someone is an independent community initiative dedicated to remembering civilian victims of Russian aggression and working towards justice.
Behind every number is a person. Their life, family, dreams and future. We are building this project so that human losses do not remain anonymous statistics, and the memory of those killed and the testimonies of survivors do not fade with time.
We remember everyone. And we demand accountability for every life taken.
What we do
We collect and organise information about civilians killed and harmed, highlighting the toll on children separately. We show the scale of Russian aggression through numbers, a timeline and geography, in a form accessible to everyone.
Our task is to make these data clear and accessible to the public, journalists, researchers and everyone seeking to preserve memory and pursue justice.
Our sources
We use data from the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, operational reports from Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (DSNS), and regional data from T4P — Tribunal for Putin.
These sources differ in their verification methods, update schedules and coverage. We identify the origin and period of the data and explain their limitations. Operational reports may be revised; missing information does not mean there were no victims.
Published figures do not reflect the full scale of the losses. In particular, there is no complete count of civilians killed in Mariupol in 2022 or in other occupied territories.

Our long-term goal is to create a list naming every civilian victim of Russian aggression: those killed and those harmed.
This will take time, careful verification and cooperation with families, civil society organisations and those documenting crimes. We aim to preserve names and stories with respect for people’s dignity, privacy and safety.
So that every innocent victim behind a number has a name again. So that their story is heard. So that the demand for justice never falls silent.
For us, retribution means establishing the truth, holding those responsible to account and securing reparation for the harm caused. No person should be forgotten. No crime should go unpunished.
